2003 Graduate Exhibition in London
Graduates selected for AoP Open Four of this year's graduates, Danielle Wood, John Wilson, Linda Haugvalstadt and Aurelien Chauvaud, have been selected for the AoP Open competition. This is an outstanding achievement, since the AoP Open is a very prestigious award and attracted over 900 entries.
BIPP Honours for ex students Two students who left Blackpool College in the early 1980s, Bernard O'Sullivan and Stuart Bebb, have recently made news in the North West Region of the BIPP.
Stephen Drury: graduate profile Taking most of his inspiration from paintings rather than other photographers, and observing how various artists have handled light and composition through the ages, Stephen has built up a strong and coherent body of work.

GRADUATE SUCCESS IN PROFESSIONAL AWARDS The Association of Photographers recently held its twentieth professional awards presentations and featured work by Blackpool graduates Enda Bowe, Ben Stockley, Simon Stock, Tommo, Andy Roberts, David Stewart and Chippy Tiffany.
GRADUATE EXHIBITIONS February was a very good month for visiting exhibitions, with shows by four of our graduates - Simon Barber, Irene Lumley, Helen McArdle and Liz Rowley.
NORTHERN LIGHTS 2003 started extremely well for us, with an extensive article on the course in the January 2003 edition of Professional Photographer magazine.
BLACKPOOL GRADUATES TAKE 3 FIRST PRIZES IN THE IDEA 2002 AWARDS Two of our graduates George Logan and Simon Parkinson have won three first prizes in IDEA 2002 (International Digital Exhibition and Awards). Matt Leach and Carl Pinnington also feature in the exhibition and catalogue.
BLACKPOOL GRADUATES DOMINATE THE AOP ASSISTANTS AWARDS Seven of our graduates Pedro Alvarez, David Denny, Stephen Hardman, Sung Ma, Michael Mackenzie, Chris Rands and Angela Walmsley have provided one third of the winning images in the Association of Photographers Assistants Awards for 2002.
SUN 2002 SUCCESS FOR EX STUDENTS SUN 2002 ('Shot Up North') is the latest exhibition and book from the Northern and Scottish members of the Association of Photographers. Three of our former students feature this year - Doug Currie, Jonathan Oakes and Carl Pinnington.
STEVE BROWN IS FINALIST IN GUARDIAN MEDIA AWARDS Steve Brown, a graduate from 2002, is a finalist in the Guardian Media Awards.
ANDY EARL IS THE FIRST VISITNG LECTURER OF 2002 The top music photographer Andy Earl visited the course and spoke to all the students just 3 days after the start of term.
HELEN McARDLE WINS AoP OPEN Helen McArdle , one of this year's graduates, won first prize in the Association of Photographer's Open Awards.
CARL O'KEEFFE EXHIBITION Another one of this year's graduates, Carl O'Keeffe, held an exhibition of his digital work at the ArtLounge in Lytham.
PEDRO ALVAREZ and GREG WHITE WIN METRO BURSARIES Pedro Alvarez and Greg White, also graduates from 2002, have both won a Metro Bursary.
MATT LEACH and KENNY BROWN WIN FUJI AWARDS Matt Leach, a second year student on BA(Hons) Photography, recently won first prize in the Fujifilm Student Awards 2002. Another second year student on BA(Hons) Photography, Kenny Brown, won a Merit Award in the Social & Editorial category.
MATT LEACH IN AoP STUDENT AWARDS Second year student Matt Leach was amongst the exhibitors in this year's Association of Photographers' Student Awards.
STUART BEBB IS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR Stuart studied at Blackpool in the early 1980s and won the Wedding Photographer of the Year Award from the Guild of Wedding Photographers. This is the second time that Stuart has won this acclaimed title but it was even more special this year because the award was presented to him by Roy Doorbar, who taught him portraiture at Blackpool.
CARL PINNINGTON EXHIBITION IN MANCHESTER Carl now works as a commercial photographer in Manchester and held an exhibition of his photographs at the Dukes 92 Gallery in Castlefield, Manchester during March and April.
DOMINIC ROUSE ON THE FRONT COVER OF THE BJP Dominic is another Blackpool graduate who has been featured in earlier editions of this newsletter. He recently exhibited in London, and will now appear on the front cover of the BJP. The BJP said "Rouse is that rarest of creatures - a photographic artist who understands and exploits the characteristics of his chosen medium with considerable technical expertise".
STUDENT EXHIBITION IN KENDAL An exhibition of student work opened in the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, and ran from February until April. There were more than 60 examples of work from second and third years on display, creating a varied and fascinating insight into the students and the course.
LEO DICKINSON JOINS GRADUATE LISTING For over 25 years ex Blackpool student Leo Dickinson has been travelling the world making adventure films, including, 'Dudh Kosi - Canoeing Down Everest', 'Everest Unmasked', 'Eiger Solo' and 'Ballooning over Everest'.
DOMINIC ROUSE EXHIBITION IN LONDON From February until March Dominic exhibited his latest work at the Plus One Gallery in Seymour Place, London.
GROUP EXHIBITION IN MANCHESTER From February until March at the Zion Centre, Manchester - an exhibition of photographs by 2001 graduates Arsha Arshad, Isy Jones, Leigh Anderson, Rob Evans and Tom Law.
