Once you've decided to apply for a course, you'll need to work out whether you satisfy our entry requirements (or will have done by the time your course starts). Providing you meet the criteria, you can then apply for your course. Full-time applications go through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), although foundation degree graduates progressing to a relevant top-up programme can (subject to certain criteria) apply to the College direct.

Very late applications or adult learners without necessary academic qualifications can also apply to the college directly.

More information about entry requirements and the application process is available within our Higher Education section

Course Code: VL1HE10

Start Date: 10th Sep 2012

End Date: 20th Jun 2014

Location: University Centre

Tuition Fees: £6000

Attendance Mode: HE Full Time

UCAS Credits: 240

Qualifications required:

Ideally you will have the minimum of 1 related A-Level or the equivalent Level 3 vocational qualification (National Diploma in Photography, Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, etc).

120 credits gained in any visual/media subject will also guarantee an interview.

If you don't think that you have the right qualifications but think this is the right course for you then apply or come along to the College to see how we can support you.

Ideally applicants will have some prior technical experience with photography (manual exposure control), be I.T literate, and have at least some basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop. While it is possible to be successful on the FdA Photography & Digital Design course without these, having some experience will stand you in good stead for what is a very technically and academically involved programme.

The Application and Interview Process

You can apply through UCAS: Course ref: WW62.

http://www.ucas.com/

For the interview you will need to bring the following:

A portfolio of no more than 20 photographs: Be prepared to explain the theme or idea behind the portfolio of work presented.

A sketchbook containing general research and images which you find interesting, and show a development of your ideas. This could include photographs you have taken outside of set projects and or collected from magazines, newspapers etc. Those already on a course of study such as A level or BTEC Diploma courses will have sketch books already. Please bring them.

You must also provide a written piece, minimum of 500 words, about a specific photograph that excites or inspires you, discussing the technical elements of the image and the meanings you read within it. This may be a photograph from an exhibition, book, magazine or newspaper.

This should consider: composition, implied meaning, and technical issues and how successful the image is.

You will be expected to talk about photography beyond being a technical subject, and be ready to answer questions about your favourite artists, what about them, or their work inspires you, and your favourite pieces of artwork or photographs.
